In "The Tattooed Memory", Abdelkébir Khatibi subverts reality by weaving it into dreams, fantasy and drama, hence the embedding of several genres in the novel (essay, poetry, theatre). Essay and novel stage the alienation of the colonized and an entire generation, uprooted, and thus clad in a double language. The attempt of the I consists in representing the colonized intellectual to protest against his own alienation. The autobiography is said by burst and by cries. His analysis requires a good knowledge of the trajectory of the author in order to situate the writer’s speech within the context of his social deixis. This article therefore examines Khatibi’s intellectual journey in terms of dispositions, positions and postures with a view to capturing the autobiographical portrait as transfigured by the author and through the cheating of writing.
